![]() This exhibition of 15 quilts celebrates the work of the Nebraska Quilt Project team - pioneering individuals who preserved an invaluable record of life in. For more information, visit The International Quilt Study Center is an academic program of the Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design in the UNL College of Education and Human Sciences. The International Quilt Study Center and Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present 'Nebraska Quilts and Quiltmakers' April 8 through Oct. ![]() The center's mission is to collect, preserve, study, exhibit and promote discovery of quilts and quiltmaking traditions from many cultures, countries, and times. The privately funded, environmentally sustainable museum houses more than 3,500 quilts, state-of-the-art research and storage space, and spacious galleries. Established in 1997, the center opened a new museum in 2008. The International Quilt Study Center and Museum exhibits quilts drawn from a collection spanning four centuries and 30 countries. Moore and Whitson will be available for a book signing following the talk. It also includes eight timeless patterns and variations to inspire the reader to make a quilt in remembrance of the courageous spirit of the original quiltmakers. ![]() "Home on the Plains" provides a peek into the homes and lives of these Nebraska women. And they made quilts - lovely, intricate quilts to brighten their homes. While struggling to survive, they still found time for beauty, cutting scalloped edges on shelf paper, growing geraniums on their windowsills, and planting roses in the yard. Inspired by sod house homemakers' words and quilts, Moore and Whitson tell about those hard-working women striving to create a home on the plains in houses made of dirt. This talk is in conjunction with the exhibition, "Nebraska Quilts and Quiltmakers." that day as part of the North Lincoln Art Crawl. Admission to the museum is free from 5 to 7 p.m. The International Quilt Study Center and Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host authors Kathleen Moore and Stephanie Whitson to talk about their new book, "Home on the Plains: Quilts and the Sod House Experience," at the museum at 5:30 p.m. Lincoln, Neb., May 26th, 2011 - the Dust cover of "Home on the Plains"
